Ion pumps
Ion pumps use electrical fields to ionise gas and trap ions on a solid surface. Â Ion pumps are the ultimate UHV pump for vibration-sensitive applications because their operation is completely silent, they do not employ any moving parts. This also means that they are maintenance-free for long periods. Ion pumps are however not designed for pumping large volumes of gas and the chamber must be pumped down first with a mechanical pump (usually a turbo pump) before they can be switched on.

VSM Instruments is able to offer a a complete range of ion pumps ranging in speed from less than 10 l/s up to several 100l/s. They can be optimised according to the pumping environment including for background of reactive gas, air or noble gases as well as for pure UHV.
